Recently, Zhongrui Wear-resistant Materials Co., Ltd. in Ningguo City, Anhui Province, completed the technological iteration and upgrade of the Grinding Ball product. Relying on a mature high-chromium alloy formula, fully automated heat treatment, and lost-mold precision casting technology, it provides high-maintenance, low-breakage rate, and high-grinding efficiency core grinding media for ball mill systems in industries such as mining beneficiation, cement and building materials, thermal power generation, chemical powder processing, and non-metallic mineral deep processing, effectively addressing industry pain points such as high steel ball loss, frequent ball breakage, high operating load of the mill, and high production costs.

1. Deeply explore the pain points in the grinding industry and optimize product development directionally

The steel balls used in ball mills, as the core wear-prone components in the powder crushing process, directly determine the production capacity, energy consumption, and operation and maintenance costs of the entire grinding line. Currently, the market's conventional carbon steel balls and low-chromium steel balls have three major shortcomings: insufficient hardness, rapid wear, and frequent replacement; poor impact toughness, prone to cracking and fragmentation under heavy-load operation in large-diameter ball mills, resulting in debris; large roundness deviation leading to reduced grinding efficiency and blockage of classification equipment, and exacerbating abnormal wear of liners.

The technical team of Zhongrui Casting has been deeply engaged in the field of wear-resistant castings for many years. They conducted repeated experiments on hundreds of on-site conditions such as dry and wet grinding, dry and wet ores, high-temperature conditions, and large and small ball mills. They optimized the entire process from alloy composition ratio, casting, and quenching and tempering to launch a new generation of high-performance cast grinding steel balls, achieving a balanced breakthrough in wear resistance, impact toughness, and roundness accuracy.

1. Multi-material gradient formula, suitable for different working conditions

The upgraded Grinding Ball is divided into three main series, covering all scenarios:

1. High-chromium alloy cast steel balls: Cr10–Cr28 high-chromium cast iron substrate, modified with elements such as molybdenum, manganese, vanadium, and rare earth; after heat treatment, the surface hardness can reach HRC 58–65, with a dense metallographic structure, extremely strong anti-corrosion and anti-wear capabilities, suitable for high-load continuous operation scenarios in iron ore, non-ferrous metal beneficiation, cement plant raw material and clinker grinding, etc.;
2. Medium-chromium wear-resistant steel balls: A cost-effective preferred solution, balancing hardness and toughness, with an extremely low breakage rate, mostly used for limestone, coal gangue, and power plant fly ash desulfurization grinding;
3. Low-chromium alloy steel balls: An economical general model, suitable for small-scale beneficiation plants, building materials auxiliary materials, and coarse grinding processes in non-metallic mineral processing, significantly reducing initial material costs.

2. Automated precision casting + closed-loop heat treatment, strictly controlling product stability

The product adopts fully automated sand casting / lost-mold vacuum pouring molding, with round and regular steel balls, minimal elliptical error, ensuring uniform force distribution in the ball mill interior; the entire production line is equipped with an intelligent temperature-controlled quenching and tempering assembly line, with a reasonable internal hardness gradient, avoiding batch cracking caused by brittle exterior and hard interior.

Each batch of steel balls undergoes four quality inspections: drop ball impact fatigue test, hardness inspection, metallographic analysis, and breakage rate detection. The breakage rate can be controlled within 0.3%, far exceeding industry standard requirements. Specifications can be customized according to customer needs, covering all regular sizes from Φ20mm to Φ150mm, perfectly matching horizontal ball mills, vertical mills, semi-autogenous mills, and rod mills, etc.

3. Direct cost reduction and efficiency improvement, creating practical value for downstream enterprises

After field tests and comparisons by multiple mining and building materials enterprises: After replacing with Zhongrui high-chromium grinding steel balls, the unit steel ball consumption per ton of output in the mill decreased by 30%–50%, the amount of debris removal was significantly reduced, and the service life of the mill liners was simultaneously extended; The grinding material fineness has been made more uniform, improving the quality of subsequent flotation, separation, and finished powder.
